Watching Haram
Question:
I have been watching bad stuff on the internet and I’m really ashamed of it but now it has become a habit and I need advice because I want to stop.
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Alhamdulillah, it is pleasing to know that you feel ashamed of the horrendous act of watching haram. This is a sign of your Imaan.
In order to leave this sin, you must have courage and determination.
The eyes are a big Ni’mah (bounty) from Allah. To waste this blessing by watching immorality and shamelessness is to show ingratitude to Allah. What if Allah Ta’ala were to snatch away this eyesight because of the sin of watching such indecency?
Ponder over the great rewards Allah Ta’ala has in store for the individual who fights his passion and refrains from sin. Allah Ta’ala has promised Jannah for such an individual wherein all his desires and passions will be fulfilled.
Furthermore, we advise you to observe the following:
- Be punctual with your five daily Salats. Performing Salah regularly on time assists one to stay away from Haram.
- Never use the computer in privacy. Always use it in a public place so that you may not be tempted to use it incorrectly.
- Spend some time in the Path of Allah with the brothers involved in the effort of Da’wah and Tabligh. This will illuminate your heart with the light of Imaan and develop a genuine love for Allah Ta’ala in your heart which is the key to all Khair (goodness).
Lastly, ponder over your sins and seek the forgiveness of Allah Ta’ala at least one hundred times daily.
We ask Allah Ta’ala that He grant you the strength to live a life of His obedience. Ameen.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
