Wigs
Question:
Hello, and thank you so much for looking at my question. May Allah (SWT) bless you.
I am a female who has lost her hair due to a medical condition. This has had a massive impact on my life and has lead to me developing anxiety and depression to the point where I find it hard to leave my room at points.
One solution I have thought of is wearing a synthetic wig to cover my hair loss/to look like my hair before. However, I have read a hadith which states how Allah (SWT) curses those who wear hair extensions. I am very worried because of this.
Please could you let me know if wearing synthetic/non human hair is permissible in this case. I know that I will have to remove it for ablution however.
Thank you and may Allah (SWT) bless you.
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is permissible to wear synthetic/non-human hair. The warning in Hadith is in reference to wigs made from human hair. Wigs from human hair are impermissible.[1]
Note that a female must practice Hijab and cover her hair even if she is wearing a wig.
